Client Work

This is a recent piece I did for Amanda Joy. This is a great example of how you can customize a size of any of the available small paintings you see in my shop*. Amanda Joy liked the small painting "Sorento" and I came out to measure her mantle and sent her a digital mock up of what it would look like to scale in her space. We went with a 36" x 48," which is one of my favorite sizes for big over-the-mantle paintings. From start to finish, she had her new painting in 2 weeks. I love how the reds and golds pull together her living room colors and make a dramatic accent piece. Thank you, Amanda Joy, for the lovely experience of working with you!

*The intent of smaller paintings is to cast a vision for larger commissioned pieces so that customers can each own an original piece. In order to keep each piece unique, I sell one mini version and one larger version commissioned in the size of your choice. Check out all the options on my shop site:

Weekend Update: Wedding Wear

It was a fun weekend and a full one- homecoming, our old neighborhood block party, and the wedding of a family friend followed by a Halloween party, of which we showed up dressed as... wedding attendees. I love how this picture blends our different styles- lumberjack and urban glam. I'll give you two seconds to guess which one is the lumberjack.  I'll take that red beard in a bow tie any day! This is giving some serious inspiration for the next house decor.  Think Teddy Roosevelt meets Trina Turk. Meet Teddy Turk, y'all. Happy Monday.

Cocktails & Art: "Charisma" and Drunken Cranberry Cocktail

Image Credit: Drunken Cranberry Cocktail | Charisma available as 24" x 30" at Chestnut Hall and 12" x 12" on my online shop

Maybe it's the crisp fall air, or maybe it's the fact that NOVEMBER is
knocking on our door, but I can't get cranberries off my mind. The deep crimson hues, the sweet/ tart combo- I love it all. Today I'd pair a cranberry cocktail with "Charisma," and get lost in bold corals and blush and raspberry and splashes of contrasting sugary and tangy. Delicious indeed!

Color Study

Long hours in the studio and crazy paint fume induced inspiration are leading to lots of pieces for a busy art season! These two color studies were recently inspired by paint smears on my palette. Inspiration is found in the wildest of places as of late- the top right study being one of them. I love how paint residue settles in the linseed oil medium and I was awestruck by a perfect color combo found floating in the oil this week and had to emulate it in a color study.  Mmmmm. Color!

Monday Mornings: Dinner with Friends

Tomorrow night the ladies are coming over for a casual fall dinner gathering. I love that all it takes is a text to the group with the theme and "come on over" and within an hour everyone replies with an amazing side that they are bringing. I couldn't ask for better food or company! This is the menu for tomorrow night and I want to eat it all right now! What's your perfect fall menu? Taking suggestions for the next one!

Custom Artwork: Abstract Cotton Field

Ashley and her family live in one of my favorite houses in Memphis and I love the fact that they get the rare opportunity to live in what was her husband's grandmother's house in historic midtown. Ashley is getting a great-room makeover and I was excited to get the call to be included on this project. She wanted a piece that was both calm and colorful and one that included the imagery of a cotton field. I worked on several mockups to get this just right and was excited to land on this composition. Bold blue hues and an abstract cotton field were just the right touch for her over-the-mantle focal piece. We made sure that it was large enough for her to be able to move it over her sofa if she wanted to mix up her wall decor. I do love a good versatile piece! Thank you, Ashley, for the lovely experience and the opportunity to be a part of your space!

Monday Mornings: Behind the Scenes of a Magazine Shoot

Collaborations are most exciting, especially when you get to team up with a good friend! A local magazine is featuring the downtown loft of Memphis interior designer, Morgan Armstrong of Memphis Modern, and we had a lot of fun last week playing behind the scenes of the photo shoot. Morgan has this painting of mine, "Safe Harbor" and it's exciting to see it get a feature as well.

This wonderful, awesome, killer, image is by our new friend Nathan Berry( Check out Nathan's work here! ). He shot the spread for the magazine and I got to sneak a peek at the proofs. They are going to be gorgeous!

Stay tuned for more details! Happy Monday to you!!

Casual Friday: Hiking Attire

You're on a hike. You are rocking your favorite old jeans and a sweatshirt because that's what you wear to hike. And you don't have on makeup because, oh, I don't know, you were going to get sweaty. And then this chick passes you on the trail. She looks amazing and fresh. She actually thought about her hiking outfit. And you're like, dangit. I should have cared more. But I'm turning a new leaf. I will own my normalness. Pretty girls, I will not let you interrupt my chi this weekend. I'll pretend I look like this when I pass you and.. ok, maybe I'll put on a little gloss to go with my hiking attire...

Nature Getaway

This weekend, David and I are headed out to a little nature getaway. I'm looking forward to turning off my phone and pretending we have no responsibilities. Simplicity. Ahh. Soaking up the smell of trees and the sound of birds. Let's go now. Ok. I'm there!

Client Work- A Manhattan Accent Piece

This piece arrived in Manhattan last week! Robert and I worked together on this project for several months together emailing back and forth until we got this piece just right for an over the sofa accent piece. It was a happy moment to ship off the final painting. I am hoping this artwork brings you and your family much happiness- thank you so much for the chance to work together on this!
